Stowe Prize 2021

September 23, 2021
An exclusive look inside the Stowe Collections
with Dr. Eddie S. Glaude Jr.

The Harriet Beecher Stowe Center is delighted to honor Dr. Eddie S. Glaude Jr. as the 2021 Stowe Prize winner. Dr. Glaude receives the award for Begin Again: James Baldwin’s America and Its Urgent Lessons for Our Own (Crown Publishing Group, 2020), a book that uses the life of James Baldwin to create dialogue about racial inequality currently in the United States. This year’s events will be virtual.

The award will be presented on Thursday, September 23, along with a rare look into the Stowe Center Collections with Dr. Glaude, UConn Professor Jeffrey Ogbar, and Director of Collections and Research Beth Burgess. The group will discuss artifacts from the Stowe Center’s nationally-significant collection that link to Baldwin’s and Glaude’s work, as well as issues of race history, historic racism, and the fight for racial equity today.

Two exclusive audio conversations featuring Dr. Glaude with special guests Reverend Dr. John Selders and Dr. Farah Jasmine Griffin are currently available in the Harriet Beecher Stowe Center Multimedia Gallery.
