SCHOOL GROUPS AND OTHER SCHOOL PROGRAMMING

Visit Both the Stowe Center and the Mark Twain House & Museum

Harriet Beecher Stowe and author Samuel Clemens (aka Mark Twain) were 19th century next-door neighbors! Students can visit both National Historic Landmark homes in one field trip. $22 per student includes tours of both homes plus one of the two programs below:

Nook Farm Neighbors (Grades K-6)

Students learn about the power of storytelling to create community through an interactive investigation of historic objects and documents. They explore the questions: What can we learn about the individuals who lived in Nook Farm through the museums’ collections? What stories might our own objects and documents tell about us and our communities?

On-Site School Groups (3-12; not college level)

Discover Harriet Beecher Stowe, an icon of U.S. and international literature, culture, and social activism. Stowe’s bestselling anti-slavery novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin changed people’s views on slavery and contributed to the eventual eruption of the Civil War.

Help your students connect history to their own lives and today’s headlines. Tour Stowe’s Hartford home, a National Historic Landmark, and participate in extended learning programs where ideas turn into inspiration and positive change.

Contact our Visitor Experience Manager, Anita Durkin, at ADurkin@stowecenter.org for booking information.

Photo Permission:

Staff at the Stowe Center may join the tour and will take pictures of the students. We do this with the utmost care and consideration, but it is so important for us to document our work with a range of audiences for our funders who underwrite our work, for grants we are writing to support us, and for marketing our work to build new audiences.  Per CT state law, this is permissible without a prior authorization from the guardian.  Should any student or caregiver choose to opt out of this request, we can be completely respectful of such requests. Teachers will point out any student who wishes to be excluded.

Groups must fill out the reservation inquiry in order to start the booking process. Click HERE for the form.
