Participatory Reading of Frederick Douglass's "What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?"

Join us for a participatory reading of Frederick Douglass’s Independence Day Speech, “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?” that he delivered on July 5, 1852 at an event commemorating the signing of the Declaration of Independence at Rochester’s Corinthian Hall. Speakers will take turns reading sections of the speech until its end and afterward there will be a short panel discussion to open lines of discourse and to ask and answer questions.
